The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) will stage its 69th PSL Leg Series on November 9 at the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City.
The one-day event, hosted by the Panaad Swimming team, will serve as a tryout for the 2015 Summer World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, and other tournaments in China, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and South Africa.
“The swimmers will be awarded with medals for the top finishers and trophies for most outstanding swimmers. Top 3 teams will also be awarded team championship trophies. Participants will test their readiness in preparation for the international competition in Bangkok,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
More than 200 swimmers from Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Cebu, Bohol, Cavite, Bacolod and other neighboring cities have confirmed their participation in the series.
“PSL is getting ready for the Universiade 2015 and we are almost in the final stage of our selection. We will maximize our participation to educate the swimming community that there is opportunity to experience to compete with the world best swimmers and make this event a motivational factor for every swimmer and for them to realize that we are way behind and catch up with the lost time.,” added Papa.
“Also a lot of good swimmers failed to experience the world Universiade, the second largest international event next to Olympics. There are good swimmers like Frigilliana, Danila, Grabador, Arabejo, etc. but they did not compete in the World University Games. Other good swimmers like Axel Ngui, Charles Walker, Celina Gonzales did not join the selection which we have been announcing. I am sorry but the Universiade is far better than the Asian Games and Sea Games,” Papa said.
The PSL is the national sports association for swimming of the Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines (FESSAP). It has the longest running swimming grassroots development program in the country. The PSL is also an affiliate to Federation International Sports University.
